Sunday 18th
Peter reports 30 members met in the large car park at
the lakeside theatre before heading down to the landing stage for the boat
trip to High Branelhow where we were met by two more members who had walked
down from their campsite. We headed off through the woods along the lake and
later riverside before heading up the track to Grange. After regrouping we
continued along the Cumbria Way through Borrowdale towards Rosthwaite, at
new Bridge taking lunch sheltering under the trees by the bridge from a
light shower. After a brief stop at the toilets we set off up the Bridle way
to Watendlath passing the resting stone and over Puddingstone Bank before dropping
down to Watendlath, again with another short toilet stop! Our track followed
the permissive path followed Watendlath Beck before crossing the Beck and
following the path through to woods to the road and Lodore Lookout view
point and welcome drink break. The views were good with mist rising off the
lake and drifting up the mountain sides. We the passed over Ashness Bridge
and down to the lakeside at Ashness landing stage, before following the lake
shore path back through the woods to the car park.

Sunday 4th
Peter reports 6 members, all male met at Pontcysyllte
car park. The day before had been a very large celebration of the aqueduct.
Fortunately most of the people had left. The weather was much better than
the day before forecast and we set out in bright sunshine. As we left the
shelter of Trevor Hall Wood we had a shower, but the weather rapidly improved
and remained as we ascended Castell Dinas Bran ready for lunch. We eventually
found shelter behind a wall keeping out of the wind. After lunch as we descended
to Llangollen we suffered a short rain shower, but by the time we arrived in
Llangollen after a short diversion the weather continued to improve so
we stopped at the cafe by the canal for refreshments before heading back along
the canal to Trevor basin. Afterwards all enjoyed refreshments at the
Trevor Inn.
Roy reports 17 members enjoyed Wainwright Chapter 91 on one of those
rare days of glorious fell-walking conditions with clear views,
dappled lighting and pleasant temperature. The surprise was that the leader
took the opposite direction round to that expected first climbing Silver How
by Allan Bank and then onto Blea Rigg for lunch. That left an easy saunter
over to Sergeant Man and High Raise for the afternoon. Because of the
extension to High Raise summit the walk became 11.2 miles and the descent
via Codale and Easedale Tarns was long and wet in parts but satisfying in
interest and challenge. Well earned beers and meals were the order of the
day afterwards in the Badger Bar.
Graham reports
9 Members met at the Pickwick Tavern at Warton and set
up Binoculars before and after sharing transport, drove in convoy to the
bottom of Bank Lane where there was limited space to park. Walked 2 miles to the end of the fence that was the
boundary of BAE Systems Grounds then sat down for a rest. This was a great
place to view Birds and we could see all around including the point where
the River Douglas met the River Ribble. Walked back via the same route then drove back to
the Pickwick Tavern for a
well deserved drink.
