During icy weather Walkers should contact the Walk Leader on the evening prior to confirm that the walk will take place as in the Program.
As part of its varied programme Northern Link arranges organised walks for its members. The focus is on meeting people and socialising rather than exercise. It is sometimes easier to break the ice and talk to new people in the great outdoors rather than in a bar or on the dance floor. So don't stay at home, get out there, enjoy the company, fresh air and the great British countryside.
Walks will be graded:-
Bird Watch - These are not walks a such a pair of binoculars essential and no
dogs allowed.
Easy - Means easy paths hardly any hills or stiles.
Relatively Easy - Means rougher paths and some low hills and stiles will be
encountered.
Moderate - Invariably means hilly. With rougher paths and fields.
Moderate to Strenuous - Higher hills with rougher terrain some scrambling and
rocks may be encountered.
Strenuous - Covers very steep or rough terrain including high mountains.
The times given for walks are the time that the walk will commence. Please try to arrive 15 Minutes earlier so that you are ready to leave at that time. It will not be possible to delay the start of the walk for more than a few minutes.
Dogs and/or children are usually welcome on the walks unless mentioned otherwise but always check with the leader beforehand if you are unsure. See Country Code for more details about bringing dogs on walks.
Sufficient liquids, a packed lunch (unless stated in the program), a torch in the winter months, suitable warm and waterproof clothing will be required on all walks, regardless of the time of year.
It is recommended that a change of clothing and a towel is taken so you can change before travelling home if wet.
Membership cards must be carried and shown at every Northern Link event attended. Lapsed members will not be allowed on the walks. Memberships cards will be checked before each walk.
Prospective members may join a couple of walks, if you wish to continue with the walks you will have to join Northern Link. The Walk Leader requires your Name and Address details for the Walk report form.
There are often more walks available to Link members "off Programme" to fill gaps and needs (i.e. people may not always want to travel to where the official walks are, or the walk grade may not be suitable). These walks may be advertised at Link venues, pub nights or slips given out on walks.
New walk leaders are always welcome. If you would like to lead others round a section of the country side that you know and enjoy, check out New Walks Leaders
